The Toronto Blue Jays conclude their 2022 co-play with a series of two games in Philadelphia against the Phillies.

Both teams sit in popular spots in their respective leagues to enter the mini-series.

The Blue Jays (83-64) finished an eight-game major game with a 5-3 record after losing 5-4 to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.

Toronto were in a position to sweep three games and lead 3-2 in ninth, but a rare stumble by Jordan Romano allowed the Orioles to score three runs.

George Springer missed a toy-tethered house by an inch, contenting himself with a double, before the Orioles shut him in to save a toy.

However, it was a solid week for the Blue Jays, who played eight games in seven days. They hold the top spot in the American League’s wild card race, one game over the Tampa Bay Rays and 1.5 against the Seattle Mariners.

The Baltimore Orioles, who need to get past one of those teams to make the playoffs, are now 6.5 games at the expense of Toronto.

Schneider’s first game was against the Phillies in Toronto on July 13, hours after Montoyo was sent off.

Thompson, a native of Corona, Ontario, is the first full-time Canadian manager since 1934.

Season series

The Blue Jays swept the mini-series at Rogers Center in July as Montoyo watched his team win 4-3 in their last game before Schneider saw an 8-2 win.

Stripling (twice on two-strokes in seven innings) took the win over Wheeler (six on seven strokes in 4.2 innings) in the end.

The Phillies had four regular players on the series’ banned list in Toronto, including Tuesday’s starter – Gibson.
