A group of researchers in Thailand has replicated “Hydroxy-xanthones”, the antioxidant-rich bio-extracts found in mangosteen peels that kill germs and stop inflammation in the intestinal mucosa.

Mangosteen is not only the queen of Thai fruits – a delicious and healthy fruit – but its peel is also rich in beneficial extracts. Local wisdom considered mangosteen peel to be a good remedy for upset stomachs, dermatitis, and wounds. There have been efforts to apply mangosteen peel extracts to various medicines and products such as plasters, gels, and surgical masks.

Associate Professor Dr. Suthasini Punyachoti from the Department of Physiology, College of Veterinary Sciences, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand recently succeeded in developing a substance that replicates the chemical structure of mangosteen peel extract and helps prevent leakage in the intestine. Apart from Health benefitsThe extract reduces the need for medications for both humans and animals.

Xanthones – a natural substance in mangosteen peel rich in benefits

Research on mangosteen peel has enabled Assistant Professor Dr. Suthacini to discover xanthones, a substance in the flavanol group that is effective in fighting or stopping various types of infections with anticancer, bacteria, allergy, anti-inflammatory and anti-inflammatories. Microbial, antimalarial and antioxidant qualities.

To investigate the ability of xanthones to reduce inflammation and destroy bacteria, a research project was launched in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Srinakharinwirot, Thailand. The project aims to develop and extract xanthones in the form of hydroxyxanthones or HDX with the highest efficacy for human and animal health.

“Mangosteen peel extracted many substances both beneficial and harmful. Moreover, it has to go through a rather complicated process and we cannot control the quality of the extracts because it depends on factors such as cultivation methods, fertilizer use, climate and care,” explained Associate Professor Dr. Suthasini.

“We chose the method of analysis and sought to simulate the chemical structure of xanthones from mangosteen peels, giving us the desired essential extracts that are easy to apply directly as part of adjuvants in medicines, foods and other products and control their efficacy in the best possible way.”

Leaky gut syndrome – the cause of disease in both humans and animals

Leaky gut syndrome can lead to many diseases, especially septicemia that can be hiding human bodies. This occurs when there is an imbalance in the function of the intestine and microvilli.

“If you can imagine how cells function in a microvilli, they line up next to each other and are responsible for screening and control Toxic materialsand bacteria that enter the bloodstream. When inflammation occurs, cells cannot line up next to each other and act like a fortress, making it possible for toxic or foreign substances to enter the bloodstream. “The situation is serious and must be addressed before it is too late,” she said.

a gut leakage It does not always have any symptoms, or if it does it may affect other physical ailments such as excessive tiredness, fatigue, headaches or other body aches without any clear indication of the causes.

“The cause is not clear but it is assumed to be the result of stress. If symptoms appear in humans, they can consult doctors immediately. However, if this occurs in animals, it is difficult to know if they are ill.”

HDX development into human and animal health products

This research is in the experimental stage to determine the quality of HDX performance. It was used in pig farms first before being tested on humans and larger, more diverse animal species. As Associate Professor Dr Suthasini concluded, “In the future, HDX will test adjuvants in a variety of products such as pharmaceuticals and Food To improve the quality of life for both humans and animals.”
