A group of researchers in Thailand has replicated “Hydroxy-xanthones”, the antioxidant-rich bio-extracts found in mangosteen peels that kill germs and stop inflammation in the intestinal mucosa.

Associate Professor Dr. Suthasini Punyachoti from the Department of Physiology, College of Veterinary Sciences, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand recently succeeded in developing a substance that replicates the chemical structure of mangosteen peel extract and helps prevent leakage in the intestine. Xanthones – a natural substance in mangosteen peel rich in benefits
Research on mangosteen peel has enabled Assistant Professor Dr. Suthacini to discover xanthones, a substance in the flavanol group that is effective in fighting or stopping various types of infections with anticancer, bacteria, allergy, anti-inflammatory and anti-inflammatories. To investigate the ability of xanthones to reduce inflammation and destroy bacteria, a research project was launched in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Srinakharinwirot, Thailand. “Mangosteen peel extracted many substances both beneficial and harmful. Moreover, it has to go through a rather complicated process and we cannot control the quality of the extracts because it depends on factors such as cultivation methods, fertilizer use, climate and care,” explained Associate Professor Dr. Suthasini.
“We chose the method of analysis and sought to simulate the chemical structure of xanthones from mangosteen peels, giving us the desired essential extracts that are easy to apply directly as part of adjuvants in medicines, foods and other products and control their efficacy in the best possible way.”
