Boston –The Boston Athletics Association (BAA) today proudly announced that all eligible athletes who submitted applications during the 2023 Boston Marathon registration window (September 12-16) will be accepted into the April 17 race, subject to verification of the qualification time.
“With registration as the opening day, we are eager to begin the road to Boston for qualified participants from around the world,” said Jack Fleming, BAA’s Acting CEO. The Marathon Unit and the Marathon Unit will be on display, bringing our community together in the spirit of athletics and our heritage. We are very much looking forward to running the 127th Boston Marathon in just seven months.”
A total of 23,267 applications were submitted during the five-day registration period, up from 22,936 eligible applications received last year. The 2023 qualifying field consists of 13,315 men, 9,930 women and 22 non-dual athletes. 624 athletes who completed at least 10 consecutive Boston Marathons were admitted to the field.
The 127th Boston Marathon will have a field space of 30,000 participants. The remainder of the field will be made up of athletes representing official charitable partners, sponsors, members of our professional field, and other advocacy entries.
BAA is currently verifying and confirming all eligible time submissions. Applicants will receive an official notification of acceptance in the coming weeks once their qualifying time has been approved and credit cards have been successfully charged. Any athlete who submits an invalid time, a final result for a distance other than a qualifying marathon, or a time that is not within the specified qualification window, will be notified that they will not be accepted. Applicants are requested not to submit additional qualification information to the BAA unless specifically requested by a BAA official.
The BAA also announced the start of the qualification period for the 128 Boston Marathon, scheduled for 15 April 2024, on 1 September 2022. Registration details for this race will be announced after the 2023 Boston Marathon.
The next BAA event will be 2022 BAA Half Marathon, presented by the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy FundSunday, November 13th. Entry places are still limited, and athletes can register for their BAA Athletes Village the account.
